This is no country...

This is no country for women, devil lives
In the hides of men and gods have eyes of stone.
She cannot be a goddess with flesh
Stripe her of that and make her a deity
Or mix her in mud and shower with pity.
She cannot choose to be what she is
Let us give her
Her life on lease.
Or send her to a country where
There is no blood or bone
Where life disintegrates and reduces
To the consciousness of an electron.

She
Sitting between the walls
Of concrete and wood
She meditates.
Her dark majesty is laden
With the bonds of religion-
Bangles, rings, paints and dots
Her person denied
To the fresh of the world.
Even the brightest ray of light
Loses its way
Into the sanguine darkness of her heart.
Mother, daughter, wife, sister
But was hated as a woman.
She seeks favours of a man
Who banished his woman to become a lord…

O cherub sweet,
Dewy eyes and dewy skin.
Holding on to your faith
When the clouds thunder and lightning speak.

O angel of innocence,
The devil lived as one of your kins.
With your prowess and your zeal
In the center it spins.

O Ariel, lovely and unbound
Dreamt to live
Beneath the blossoms on the bough.
Where are the cowslip’s bells?
The bees left the flowers for someone else to suck
And owls make an unpleasant sound.

my bird

my beautiful bird of desires has flown
i saw it going away
it flew higher and higher
and higher
and i watched it
against the fresh and wet blue sky
my bird seemed beautiful
but it was fading away
and now
i am not able to locate it
the sky too
is no longer
fresh and blue....
dark clouds have covered it
it will rain soon...
my bird
come back
back home
we'll wait
till the sky is fresh and wet blue again
and we will fly together then
yes
we will fly together...

Stray white drops in the sky
White drops of your essence are spread across the sky
Numerous lives throbbing with the warmth to excite
Peeping at the world with sparkle in the eye
Expecting the welcome of a lotus to confine.

Fume of the dark horse surrounds the wild
Child of the white mud is dark and horrified
Tossing and toiling till it mingled in the wild
'I see stray white drops in the sky' it cried.

can't escape
the you
in me.
Though you sometimes hurts
it never leaves
me alone.
Suffering with me
the pangs
you grew
old enough to be me.
Rainbow
you shows me.

Horses came running
past you
past me
trod the bloom
they withered.
Smell remains
the perfume
i can feel it in my nose.
It is you.

The cotton
it touched my skin
coarse
spines
around your lips

Horses came running
past you
past me
trod the bloom
they withered.
Spines remain
piercing
i can feel it on my skin.
It is you.

WERE THEY RIGHT AFTER ALL??
One day i was watching wild dogs on Animal Planet. Dogs are social animals and they have a well-knit family structure. The children are looked after by every adult in the family jointly. There are various couples in the family. And there is one head couple of the family. This couple jointly takes decisions for all the family members and they are the king and the queen of the clan. Well, this is the structure all over the animal kingdom. What captured my attention was the fact that this couple does not breed and have no children of their own! It means they practice celibacy! (We can not expect dogs to use contraceptives of course!) This made me think of another fact. In the family of elephants it is the mother elephant that decides who is going to be the mate of her daughter. And yet another fact. There are some species of birds who believe in one love. Cranes, crows etc, it has been observed, are so passionate about their partners that they die in grief if their partner dies. They remain with the single partner throughout their lives like true soulmates. What does that mean? Are these really virtues- one love, loyalty, celibacy, the king and the queen?! It seems, we must think again before deciding what is natural and what is being imposed upon us through social constructs. It may be that the thing which seems to be imposed upon us by this social system was actually our natural instinct and not a forced thing!

(What's wrong with me??.. I used to love rebellion!!)
